N900 minor firmware update (1.2009.44.1) available

A minor firmware update for the Nokia N900 is now available. The update contains only minor changes. However it does include enablers that makes the device ready for its first major firmware update (PR 1.1). PR 1.1 is expected to fix a number of bugs and add a number of features including improved portrait mode support in select applications.

One of the few visible changes in the new firmware is the addition of icons to the listings in Application manager and the addition of Ovi and Nokia System Software Updates to application catalogs. The Maemo Extras catalog is now also enabled by default.

The new firmware can be installed over the air (18.5 MB) or via Nokia Software Updater. For over the air (OTA) updates you should see an alert in the status bar in the status bar in the next 24 hours.

There's a thread on t.m.o. discussing the new firmware update.
